Book

The book presents a step by step guide or 'practicum' to building an impressive model of the revenue cutter 'Sherbourne'. At the heart of the model is a beginners' kit from Caldercraft / Jotika which gives a sound basic hull but simplifies many of the fittings and omits others. The detailed instructions in the book describe how to make masts and sails, belay all the rigging and add fine details such as a compass, crew and racks for cannon balls. The modelling techniques range from traditional woodcraft to laminated paper to computer printed fabric. All can be undertaken on a kitchen table and do not require expensive tools or materials.

The book is copiously illustrated with over 300 colour photographs and shows how to refine and embellish the kit to create a faithful reproduction of the original. The author's model won a silver medal and the 'Model Boats' kit cup at the Model Engineer Exhibition in London, 2010.
